Russian State Duma Proposes Rewarding Doctors who Dissuade Women from Having an Abortion

Instead of fines for persuading women to have an abortion, it would be better to reward those doctors who dissuaded women in labor from terminating their pregnancies — this was the proposal made by the Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma, Pyotr Tolstoy.

"Persuading someone to have an abortion is truly immoral. At the same time, at the federal level I would go a different route. Let the doctor who dissuaded a woman from having an abortion receive a bonus of 20-30 thousand rubles, said the State Duma representative", reports Parliamentary Gazeta.

According to Pyotr Tolstoy, a bonus for dissuading abortion “will be a better incentive to save the lives of unborn children than the threat of being fined.”

He said that today in five regions of Russia the authorities have decided to withdraw abortions from commercial clinics. In addition, in the Kaliningrad region it was decided to introduce fines of up to 50,000 rubles for doctors who persuade a woman to have an abortion.

Let us recall that earlier Patriarch Kirill expressed the opinion that laws and prohibitions alone cannot solve the problem of abortion in Russia; it is necessary to educate society about their destructive nature, and also to instill in children respect for human life.
